I will be traveling for a year in Europe and South America, specifically The Netherlands, Germany, France, Croatia, Slovenia, Argentina, Chile and Mexico. What is the best way to deal with money? Should I keep my money in a US bank account? Are there any banks that have free ATM withdrawals at foreign ATMs? How is the exchange rate? If so, which bank? Should I try to open a bank account in Europe? What about for South America?

Currently Capital One charges its U.S. credit card customers no fees for withdrawing cash in foreign countries — no transaction fee and no currency exchange fee.

However, they do charge interest on the cash advance.
