I am joining the army and my recruiter needs a direct deposit form. Problem is i don’t have a bank account. So i was just wondering if any banks in California offer any special things for military personnel?

USAA is the best bank to use

USAA is kool. However, the CREDIT UNION is better. Always use a credit union rather than a bank. Because a credit union is like opening a bank with FRIENDS you know. However, with a bank, dang near anybody with a FACE can open an account. And banks make unstable investments with everybodys money!

As the others said USAA. Dunno if you can join the bank if you haven’t been to basic yet though. I would get one in your home town to start with, and once you finish your training you switch over, while keeping your home bank so your family can help you out or visa-versa. Thats what i did.

I would recommend USAA

You can’t join USAA until after you complete Basic Training. So I would just choose a bank for now and get your direct deposit started and then once you get to your first duty station then join USAA and get a bank account with them. Then you can get your direct deposit changed to go into your USAA account.

I had this question, also.
I called my recruiter and asked if I should just wait to open one at basic and he said yeah, that in the long run it’s better.
So I won’t be opening one until I get to basic. S:
